Isla Pachera / Pedro Gonzales

Morning found the Sea Voyager anchored by the island of Pachera and two smaller islands called Pachequilla, and before breakfast we saw hundreds of seabirds flying around in the early morning light. Zodiacs provided us the perfect way to get close up views of brown pelicans, brown boobies, frigate birds and even blue-footed boobies, which has dramatically increased in numbers during the last five years. Along with the seabirds several species of herons were also spotted. The afternoon was a relaxing one on a dark sandy beach on Isla Pedro Gonzales. Kayaking in the large bay was a very popular way to spend the afternoon and several species of birds and fish could be seen from the kayaks including a great view of a graceful eagle ray. Kayaks were a great way to explore the shoreline and waters of Isla Pedro Gonzales. Recap that night was a memorable affair as Emma showed us the seldom seen feeding behavior of gooseneck barnacles, courtesy of our video microscope!
