Tamarindo Estuary, Guanacaste, Costa Rica

We woke up this morning a little later than yesterday, 7:30 a.m.!! We were going to visit one of the most popular beaches in the Costa Rican Pacific coast: Tamarindo beach. Once the Zodiacs dropped us off at the beach most of us found something to bring back on board: T-shirts, blouses, sandals, and local jewelry.

After our well deserved shopping spree, we took a Zodiac cruise into the Estuary right next to town. This ride could only be done during high tide, since the entrance to the river is a sandbar when the tide is low. We surfed our way into the river mouth and we were rewarded with white ibis, black bellied whistling ducks, ospreys, whimbrels, willets, green herons, crested caracara, green kingfisher, and a boa constrictor!

We repositioned the boat and during the afternoon we were welcomed by the Cabo Velas’ beach. Some snorkeling, some kayaking, swimming, and sandcastle building were part of the menu, until it started pouring in the "rainforest" causing most of us to run back on board looking for safety.
