Rachel Crane

From the kaleidoscopic coral reefs of the tropics to the swaying kelp forests of temperate seas, Rachel explores and shares the ocean's wonders. With expertise as a Marine Ecologist, PADI Master Scuba Instructor and USCG 100-ton Captain, she combines adventure, science and storytelling to foster deeper connections with marine ecosystems.

Raised on an alpaca farm in upstate New York, Rachel developed an early connection to nature that inspired her studies in Ecology and Marine Biology at Unity College in Maine. Her fascination with the ocean grew through coral disease research at MOTE Marine Laboratory in Florida before she found her focus in ecotourism and science communication. After settling in Key Largo, she captained vessels for reef restoration scientists, led ecotourism excursions and mentored young professionals in boating and scuba diving.

Rachel has spent more than a decade guiding expeditions around the world. As an Undersea Specialist with National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions, she interprets underwater ecosystems and helps guests better understand the ocean through shared discovery. Drawing on experience in marine research, conservation and education, she encourages guests to see the connections between healthy ecosystems, thriving wildlife and the communities that depend on them. Her background in science, education and adventure allows her to connect people with the marine environment while encouraging thoughtful stewardship of the places they explore.
