Maggie Lemere
Maggie Lemere is a documentary filmmaker, oral historian and storytelling strategist, whose projects explore humanity’s connection to the environment. Her work has led her around the world—supporting social impact initiatives across East Africa and documenting environmental changemakers in Southeast Asia. As a National Geographic Explorer, she is currently directing a film about the relationship between indigenous communities and old-growth olive trees in the Middle East.
Maggie is the author of Nowhere to Be Home: Narratives from Survivors of Burma's Military Regime, as well as the cofounder of Rhiza, a women-led collective that uses storytelling, healing and research to support social transformation and environmental justice. She is trained as a Master Naturalist and serves as an oral historian for the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History.
