Joe Holliday
Joe Holliday is a retired Geology and Oceanography professor who taught at El Camino College in the Los Angeles area for many years. He currently lives in Long Beach, California, and continues to share his interests in geology, oceanography, natural history and travel.
Raised in the Adirondack Mountains near Albany, New York, Joe developed an early appreciation for the natural world through firsthand experiences in forests, mountains and waterways. This interest in understanding how natural systems work would shape both his academic career and his lifelong travels.
Joe earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Hamilton College, a Master of Science in Geology from Oregon State University and a teaching degree from California State University. His background in both science and education helped define a career focused on helping others better understand the processes that shape our planet.
Over the years, Joe has traveled extensively throughout the world in search of wildlife, landscapes and natural phenomena. More recently, he has expanded that focus to include cultural destinations across every continent, exploring the connections between natural history, human history and place.
For more than 30 years, Joe has worked as a naturalist with National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions, traveling to destinations around the globe and sharing his knowledge with travelers. His broad interests, combined with decades of teaching and field experience, continue to inform his approach to exploration and interpretation.
