Gaby Pilson

With experience as a naturalist and outdoor educator, Gaby has worked in the Arctic and Antarctic aboard small expedition vessels since 2018. Her time in the polar regions has given her extensive experience interpreting the ice, wildlife and history that shape these remote environments, while sharing the science and stories behind some of the planet’s most distinctive landscapes.

Her academic background includes Earth sciences, particularly glaciology and meteorology, as well as history and philosophy. She also holds a master’s degree in outdoor education, with studies and research focused on risk management and wilderness medicine education in remote environments. Beyond expedition vessels, Gaby has worked as a mountaineering guide, backpacking instructor and wilderness medicine instructor, bringing experience in outdoor leadership, field education and remote travel to her work.

When she is not onboard with National Geographic–Lindblad Expeditions, Gaby travels independently and seeks out remote and less-visited destinations around the world. She particularly enjoys solo travel and prefers exploring by train or sailboat whenever possible. A self-described nerd with wide-ranging interests, she is always interested in learning something new. While onboard, Gaby is happy to discuss just about anything, especially obscure geography trivia, polar environments and the merits of a quality cup of coffee.
