Franco Buscemi
Originally from Iqaluit, Nunavut, Franco grew up speaking Inuktitut, his mother tongue, and developed a strong connection to Inuit culture and communities. Through his work with Inuit-led organizations and businesses, he has traveled throughout the four Inuit land claim regions in Canada and visited all 25 communities in Nunavut. These experiences have given him firsthand knowledge of the diverse communities, landscapes and cultural traditions found across Inuit Nunangat.
Franco joined the Adventure Canada expedition team through the Nalunaiqsijiit training program, which supports Inuit participation and professional development within the expedition industry. He now works as a Zodiac driver, bear monitor and Inuit cultural educator. In these roles, he draws on his language, community connections and experience across the Canadian Arctic to provide cultural context and share perspectives on Inuit life, history and traditions.
Now residing in Ottawa, Ontario, Franco continues to maintain close connections with Inuit communities and culture. He co-hosts the "Uqallagvik" radio show on CKCU 93.1 FM and serves as the Inuit community liaison at Carleton University. Through these roles, he helps create opportunities for communication, cultural exchange and community engagement. Whether working in education, radio or expedition travel, Franco values opportunities to use Inuktitut and share knowledge of the North. He welcomes every opportunity to return to the Arctic and continue exploring the region he calls home.
