Don Heath
Don has always enjoyed the outdoors and exploring. Raised in Vernal, Utah, he developed an early interest in fossils and geology while exploring Dinosaur National Monument with his family. After high school, Don lived in Mendoza, Argentina, for two years, where he became fluent in Spanish and gained an appreciation for different cultures and perspectives. He later earned bachelor's degrees in Biology and Spanish from Utah State University and a master's degree in Educational Leadership from Southern Utah University, combining his interests in science, education and communication.
Don currently serves as principal of Valley High School in Orderville, Utah, and lives in nearby Kanab with his wife, Heather, and their daughter, Harper. Throughout his career, he has worked as a biology teacher, Spanish teacher, vice principal, elementary principal and high school principal. He believes strong relationships and a positive culture are essential to successful schools, communities and expedition experiences alike, and enjoys creating opportunities for learning both in the classroom and in the field.
For nearly two decades, Don has worked as a guide and naturalist throughout Utah and Southeast Alaska. He is proud to serve as an expedition leader with National Geographic–Lindblad Expeditions, sharing his knowledge of geology, natural history, regional history and the remarkable places guests explore while encouraging curiosity, observation and a deeper understanding of each destination.
