Dec 01, 2019 - National Geographic Sea Lion
National Geographic Sea Lion departed Caldera early this morning on its inaugural Guanacaste Costa Rica voyage. The Curu Reserve was the morning’s destination. Guests arrived at the beach by Zodiac and hiked through a mangrove estuary, primary forest, riparian areas, and orchards. The varied habitat made for excellent wildlife viewing. We had extended sightings of both howler and capuchin monkeys at play, feeding, and grooming. The reserve is an example of balanced approach between agricultural land use and forest preservation.
Our afternoon’s activities centered on the marine environment of Tortuga Island, where guests enjoyed an afternoon of kayaking and paddle boarding. The warm Pacific waters wash away the jetlag, open the senses, and make one ready to receive the impressions of tropical Costa Rica.
