Mar 05, 2019 - National Geographic Endeavour II
Today we woke up to the beautiful view of Alcedo Volcano on Isabela Island, where we spent our morning. Our first visit to Isabela Island was a very special moment for many of our guests on the National Geographic Endeavour II, as we had our first close encounters with giant tortoises. Alcedo Volcano is home to the Alcedo giant tortoises and land iguanas, and we got to share our trails with them along the morning hike.
After a delicious and colorful Ecuadorian lunch, we moved locations and dropped anchor at Tagus Cove; a protected cove where many sailors including Capt. Fitz Roy and Charles Darwin visited during their stay in the Galapagos Islands in 1835. Our afternoon at Tagus Cove was full of activities, including kayaking, paddle boarding, snorkeling, Zodiac rides and a beautiful and invigorating hike to the rim of Tagus Cove. Another magical day on the Western Realm!
