Jan 08, 2018 - National Geographic Quest
National Geographic Quest dropped anchored next to our morning destination right after sunrise. A group of Islands could be seen from the windows of our lounge. We had arrived to Bona Island and up in the sky we could see different species of sea bids soaring.
The seabirds love to be around this area since in the Bay of Panama is known for having an upwelling zone. Here, the trade wind will blow the warm surface water allowing the cold currents from the bottom to rise. With this, a lot of nutrients are brought to the surface creating an interesting food change.
It was a great morning exploring the surroundings on board our zodiacs. Several of these seabirds were nesting and other were just soaring above us. Frigatebirds, brown pelicans, brown boobies and blue-footed boobies filled the sky as we passed next to them. What a great morning.
We would had stay longer in this paradise but we had to cover 190 nautical miles, so the rest of the afternoon we cruised towards our next destination of our expedition, Coiba National Park.
