Jan Schmid

Jan Schmid is an Expedition Diver and Naturalist with extensive experience in technical diving, dive operations and remote expedition safety. Born in Germany, he began his early career in medical engineering and research, studying bone healing and implant design before shifting his professional focus toward the ocean and field-based exploration.

A technical, rebreather and cave diving instructor, Jan has guided and trained divers internationally in regions including Indonesia, Palau and Mexico. His work has included surveying and mapping underwater cave systems, as well as supporting exploration through instruction and field leadership.

Jan has served aboard private support and expedition vessels in remote destinations, overseeing dive operations, safety protocols and medical readiness. His experience spans polar, tropical and temperate waters across every continent, with hands-on expertise in diverse marine ecosystems and expedition environments.

In addition to diving instruction, Jan supports underwater filming as a safety diver and camera operator and contributes to expedition logistics through small-boat and Zodiac operations.

As a Naturalist, Jan shares knowledge of marine and terrestrial life, diving physiology and expedition practices with guests both above and below the surface. He brings a calm, detail-oriented approach to guiding, supporting safe exploration and meaningful engagement with remote environments.
