Alex Harper

Whether studying wildlife in the field or leading guests through remarkable landscapes, Alex combines science, education and conservation to help people deepen their connections to the natural world. His background spans field research, birding, ecological education, expedition guiding and government wildlife policy, allowing him to translate complex science into engaging, accessible experiences for travelers of all ages and experience levels.

Growing up in South Florida, Alex spent much of his time exploring Biscayne Bay, the Florida Keys and the Everglades with his family. Early interests in marine mammals, birds and reptiles eventually led him to ornithology, which became the foundation for his career in science, conservation, research and expedition guiding. His work has since taken him across diverse ecosystems throughout the United States.

As a scientist, Alex has participated in avian population studies in the Florida Keys and throughout much of the Intermountain West for the National Park Service, U.S. Forest Service and environmental assessments supporting renewable energy development on public lands in the American Southwest. He later served as director of a Las Vegas-based bird conservation organization, helping guide its policy, education and conservation initiatives. As a guide and naturalist, he enjoys helping guests develop observation skills, interpret animal behavior, understand ecological relationships and leave with a deeper appreciation for the natural world.
